How Megalophallus Can Affect Sexual Relationships
Many of us might not be familiar with the term Megalophallus. Megalophallus refers to a condition where the penis gets enlarged. It is often caused in men suffering from priapism. This is a medical condition where in men experience prolonged erection that can be quite painful for several days or hours.
Causes of Priapism
The causes of priapism could be due to the following reasons:
- Drug and alcohol abuse
- Injuries on the genitals
- Blood diseases such as leukaemia and sickle cell anaemia
- Blood pressure or anti depression medications
- Spinal cord injuries or issues
Megalophallus Common in Sickle Cell Anaemia Patients
The causes of Megalophallus are yet to be known. Many people are of the assumption that this condition occurs when there is lack of oxygen into the penis. This might be due the penile chambers filled with too much blood, leading to erections in men. Harder erection leads to a bigger and fuller penis.
Megalophallus is common in patients suffering from sickle cell anaemia. This is an inherited medical disorder that is caused due to abnormally shaping of the red blood cells.
These blood cells are responsible in stopping the blood flow to the penile tissues. In simple words, the penis has sufficient blood to maintain an erection, but not all the penis to come back to its normal size.
How can Megalophallus be Treated
Megalophallus is nothing but the extended version of priapism. So the first thing, men suffering from such a condition must do is treat themselves for priapism.
